About Us
Outreach Taekwondo Consultancy (OTC) started in May 2006 as a result of a dream. I had been studying for my next martial arts grading and that day I had been dealing with a youth who had been causing a great deal of anti-social behaviour within his local community.
I woke up at 2am after dreaming about running a martial arts class aimed at young people who could benefit from not only the training but the teachings and discipline that martial arts has to offer. I wanted to create something where young people could come and learn some of the lessons that I believe have made me the person I am today.
As a result what is now Outreach Taekwondo Consultancy was born. In creating the consultancy I wanted to be sure that not only young people who were constantly in trouble were being targeted and that once again all of the good kids received nothing. I wanted the consultancy to focus on a broad range of youth making sure that we included the good kids who deserved to be given something back to show that staying on the right side of the tracks yielded rewards too! All too often agencies and authorities have focused everything on those causing all of the trouble sending the wrong message to those doing the right thing.
I also wanted to include young people who had other issues not just those who were on the borderline of anti-social behaviour and criminality. To this end we include youth who have confidence issues, have been bullied, have been bullies, suffer from conditions such as ADHD and so on. As far as I am concerned our remit is limitless and if it is believed that Martial Arts Training will help a youth then we will strive to include them in the program.
In terms of developing communities we try to achieve this by targeting the hard to reach individuals while at the same time providing the public with the ability to protect themselves should the need arise. Why? Well it is my belief that if all the honest, hard working and decent people had just a little martial arts training then it would make all the potential robbers and thieves think twice before taking advantage!
Originally called ‘Positive Attitudes Through Martial Arts or ‘PATMA’ we were a community organisation but it became very clear that this was unsustainable and that in order for the organisation to be able to continue it needed to be ran as a company. As a consequence ‘PATMA’ was changed into Outreach Taekwondo Consultancy in July 2007 and registered as a limited company but to be run as a Social Enterprise, which essentially means that we deliver the training to the youth as a non-profit organisation.
However, as with all businesses you need to make some money in order to survive, develop and grow in the field you’re in. To this end aside from the Martial Art Training we offer we also act as a consultancy to instructors, registering them with ‘OTC’ and then finding suitable work for them. As a result of having a bank of instructors registered with us we can also offer customers a professional tailor made service to cater for any martial arts requirement you have.
As an organisation we have several aims, firstly we have already established ourselves in Harlesden and are looking to expand to other parts of London recreating what we have already started in NW10 with our goal to have at least one student representing Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics. Our continuing plan is to engage as many people as possible and bring the benefits of martial arts predominantly Taekwondo to them.
Above all I wanted to create a company that is about change! Outreach Taekwondo Consultancy is about exactly that, change! I want to give people an opportunity to change how they behave, react and live their lives. I want to show people that through no other means except having faith in yourself and your abilities you can make those positive choices, effectively changing your world.
Our existence in its simplest form is about choices; they determine who we are and the world in which we live.
The more positive choices we make the better your world will be. Taekwondo is one of those positive choices!!
Thank you
